"Ya ever had cabbage stew?" she asked wrinkling her nose. "It's not good... I like fruits an' such but cabbage is just.." She stuck out her tongue in disgust, much like a kid would.

He gave her a warm smile, pleased that she was willing to try. He really thought she'd like Mrs. Melas, even if she could be loud, overbearing, and enthusiastic. "That's all she could ask for, isn't it?"

"A'course!" he said with a laugh. "What's not to like?" He liked to think that she might enjoy being embraced by the Melas family. It saddened him that she didn't really have anyone of her own anymore, and he hoped his family might be some comfort.

His laugh made her grin, shaking her head when he spoke. She wasnt sure what people didn't like about her. But didn't think she wanted to find out either. "so you were born in new york?"

"Born and raised in the same house my family lives in now." He shrugged his shoulders. "My ma told my pa that she'd only move once in her life, and that was from my grandparents' house in Greece."
