The thought alone made her shudder. She stood up and tucked the covers tightly around him, bending down to kiss his forehead lightly. "You rest some more. I'm going to go and fetch Dr. Winters."

Kathryn borrowed one of Leo's horses and rode into town, heading straight for Dr. Winters' office. She explained to him what had happened, and that she would pay him double his usual fee if he would come straight away.
About an hour later, Kathryn was escorting Dr. Winters up to Leo's room.

Leo was stripped down to his underwear, still passed out, and Alex was rebandaging some of his wounds.
"Oh! Doctor!" Alex greeted, standing up. "Leo was in an awful fight..."

The doctor held up his hand, almost like he were saying he didn't want to hear anything. The less he knew the better. He shooed both Alexander and Kathryn out of the room while he worked.
About 20 minutes later, he emerged, saying Leo was going to be fine. Thank goodness Kathryn had called him, though, because he might not have been.

Alex thanked the doctor, and offered him a cold beverage.
Leo was in bed, sleeping.

Kathryn waited until Dr. Winters was out of sight before rushing into Leo's room. He looked better, she thought. Hopefully that wasn't just her imagination. She went into his bathroom and wet a washcloth, setting it on his forehead and wetting his cracked lips.
