Jack went charging after her, the cold air hit him hard in the face and he realized maybe he'd had too much to drink as well. "Tara!"

"Right here," she called with a sigh. She hadn't stormed off very far--just down the street to a lamp-post that she could lean against. One of the roses had fallen out of her hair and lay trampled on the pavement. She looked up at Jack and smiled weakly. "Could've gone worse."

"Oh yeah..." He said and then wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. He kissed the top of her head. "You can stay at the lodging house with me," he said. He sure as hell wasn't going to let her spend the night in this house. Her parents might actually decide to kill her.

"Does that mean I have to sell papes?" she asked, just managing to keep her smile in place. "I am pretty good with the headlines..." If not with the carrying. She sighed and melted into his arms. "I don't think I was drunk enough..."

Jack laughed, "Oh you're plenty drunk," he placed a stray hair behind her ear. "You can sell papes or get another job, I know some of the girls work at Tibby's or there's always something else." he smiled at her reassuringly.

"I'll find something," she assured him with a grand, sweeping gesture of her arm that almost caused her to topple over. She sighed. "Shall we stagger home together before my father finds us? Or worse, my mother? Or...God forbid, my sisters?"

He smiled, "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." He wrapped an arm around her waist, "ready?"

"Ready," she agreed, holding onto him tightly as they wove through the streets. It was a long walk to the Lower East Side. At least Jack and the alcohol kept her warm.

Jack was definitely a little worried about Tara, about making sure that she was safe. Pretending to be a Newsie for a day was a far cry from being one.

When they finally came into sight of the lodging house, Tara sighed with relief. It was...well, not exactly like coming home, but the closest she had right now. She staggered up the steps and through the door, clinging to Jack for support.

"Thanks," Tara murmured, collapsing onto a bunk and pulling Jack down with her, ignoring the snickers of a few random newsgirls. "Thanks so much for everything, Jack. I'm so glad it's over, and I'm glad I'm here, and I'm...quite sleepy..." She smiled sheepishly, knowing exactly how her head would feel in the morning.

Jack kissed her softly and wrapped his arm around her, he yawned. "get some sleep."
