((Awwww! )) Risk let out an exhausted sigh once they finally reached their apartment. He gently put the tree down in the corner of the room, took of his jacket and fell on the couch. "We made it," he mumbled, his face in between the pillows.

((Yeah, she's an eternal angst muffin. <3 But at least her life's still better than Macbeth 1.0's!))
She snorted with laughter at Risk's collapse and walked over to inspect the tree, wondering how they would even get it to stand up. The old wash basin in the bathroom, maybe--they could pack it with dirt, stick the tree in, water it a lot, and hope for the best. "We made it," she agreed, depositing Jo in her bedroom for a nap and wandering to the kitchen to make some tea.

"What're you doing?" he mumbled, head still in the pillows once he heard her moving around in the kitchen.
((I agree with that!! One of these days, we should do a prequel thread with Ershey and Macbeth!))

"Tea. What else?" she called, lighting the stove and filling the kettle with water. "You want any?"
((Oh gods! The angst! We totally should, though.))

Instead of answering, Risk hesitantly pushed himself off the couch and headed towards the kitchen, turning on the stove as Macbeth placed the a full kettle on the fire.

She looked up at him in surprise. "Thanks," she murmured, rummaging through the cupboard and setting out cups, saucers, and her precious English tea leaves.
((Consequence of all my Union research--I found out tea bags weren't invented till 1908!))

((Nice!!))
Once she was done arranging the tea leaves and the cups, Risk smiled and swept her up in a hug.

Macbeth let out a startled yelp; at least he'd waited till she put down the fragile china. She squirmed for a moment, then managed to relax and pat him awkwardly on the back. "Um...yeah, it...it ain't been that bad an evening, I guess...why are we hugging?"

Risk shrugged, pulling back to look at her. "I've been holding a tree all day," he muttered. "I can't at least hug you for no reason at all?"

"Your reward for hauling a tree is to hug me?" She looked at him skeptically. "That's kinda sad. You oughta demand cash or, I dunno...chocolate."

"Okay, fine, no hugs next time," he smirked, moving the kettle once it began to whistle. He carefully poured them both tea and handed Beth her cup.

She took it and sat down, closing her eyes and breathing in the steam as she waited for him to do the same. Tea was basically the closest thing to a lover she'd ever had. No matter what had come before, it always relaxed her.
((Off to bed! 'Night! <3))

Risk took his tea and sat down next to Macbeth, staying quiet until she finally sipped her tea. "Feel better?" he smiled.
((Gnight! <3))

"Mmm-hmm," she admitted, blowing on her tea. She looked at him, sighed, and looked down at the tea again. She both wanted and didn't want to ask him exactly what the hell they were doing. After all, if it was anyone's fault that they'd never defined this odd relationship, it was hers. Sometimes she liked it that way, sometimes...
Sometimes she wished she weren't so goddamn complicated.

"What you thinkin' about?" asked Risk curiously after he'd taken a sip of his tea.
