Sapphy beamed at him happily.
"What do you want to do first?"

Sorely tempting as the games of chance were, Race thought he'd save them for later. "You hungry? If so, I'll get you that pretzel. And if not, I say we start with a rollercoaster to work up an appetite."

"Maybe we should do the roller coaster first."

"Sounds good to me," Race agreed, leading her over to the nearest line. He watched as the rickety wooden contraption took a series of loops with dizzying speed, and felt both exhilirated and mildly nauseous at the thought that they would soon be on it.

Sapphy affectionately looped her finger into Race's belt loop. She gave him a reassuring smile -- they were next.

He smiled back and hopped into one of the wooden cars, pulling Sapphy in with him. "In case we die, know that this has been the best day ever," he informed her, touching the harmonica in his pocket and dramatically muttering some prayer in Italian.

Sapphy rolled her eyes in good-nature, casting Racetrack a wink.

He smirked back...just as the car began to move. It jerked forward once. Then again. Then it went careening down the track, swooping around one loop after another, and Race was soon squeezing his eyes shut and yelling wordlessly along with the rest of the passengers, and practically squeezing Sapphy's hand off. This was terrifying. And fantastic!

Whenever Sapphy went on the Coney Island rides, she never cursed or screamed or covered her eyes or even held onto the safety rail. She just flew around in the seat with her eyes wide open and giggled the entire ride.
She curled into Racetrack's side happily.

Race smiled, wrapping his arm around her, and laughed at her delighted giggles, and then shouted some more, until the ride came to an end. "Oh, we have to do that again," he announced enthusiastically, pushing up the safety bar and freeing them from the car.

Sapphy's face was still pink from laughing so hard.
"Pretzel first!" she demanded, flopping against Race.

He caught her and grinned. "Pretzel first."
Heading for the nearest pretzel stand, he grandly ordered two and produced the money--he'd finally found something to splurge all those winnings on. "Also," he reminded Sapphy, "it's my turn to ask questions!"

"Only if you get cheese to go with these pretzels?" Sapphy batted her eyelashes at Racetrack.

He smirked and turned back to the vendor. "Shaye here wants cheese." He added a few coins and turned back to her. "All right. What's some embarrassing secret of Copper's that I can use as blackmail when he finds out about us?" he asked evilly. He was going to be pissed if the guy didn't have at least one.

Sapphy actually glared at Racetrack.
