Jack Kelly most definitely meant what he said and he arrived, red faced and smiling a minute later. "You ready to head home?" He asked her.

She smiled at him happily and nodded. "More than ready," she answered as she gave a wave to the bouncer at the back door and stepped out into the alley. It had been a long shift tonight, very heavy on violin parts.

"I think you did great," jack told her smiling as they walked toward home.

"Thank you," Birdie grinned at him as she tucked her violin case up under her arm. "Did you have fun with Pie?" she asked, sliding a glance sideways at him.

"proooobably too much fun," he slurred a bit as spoke and then laughed.

Birdie laughed, amused, and caught his arm to steady him. "Too much fun is all right every now and then." She smiled brightly up at him.

"yes it is!" he looked down at her smiling, a stray piece of hair brushed across her face. He brushed it behind her ear.

She blushed red, then hastily turned back to continue down the street. "Have you and Pie known each other a long time?" she asked quickly, feeling nervous again.

"since he's been at the lodge. I don't spend as much time with him as I do some of the other guys," he answered, walking steadily toward home beside her.

Birdie could see the lodging house up ahead already -- usually she was happy it was such a short walk from Irving Hall, but tonight she'd rather it were a little farther away. "Thanks for walking me back," she said quietly, glancing up at him.

"you're welcome." he said softly and the glanced down at his shoes, he looked back into Birdie's eyes, "I wouldn't want anything to happen to you, you come home so late ya know?"

Blushing faintly, she smiled up at him. "It means a lot to me, Jack. To know you're looking out for me." Before she could change her mind, she put a hand on his arm and rose up onto her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek, then carefully moved away and continued walking. With any luck, Jack would be drunk enough to not think anything of it.

Jack paused for a second and smiled to himself. She'd kissed him! Well granted it was just on the cheek, bug still, mouth to skin contact was definitely a step in the right direction. Jack had to run a bit to catch up to her. He cautiously slipped his hand into hers.

Birdie looked swiftly up at him as he put his hand in hers, but she smiled a bit, biting her lip, and curled her fingers through his, swinging her case slightly in her free hand.

Jack turned his head to look at her smiling too, he squeezed her hand back and gave it a swing as they walked.
