Finally, they reached the lodging house. Birdie almost sighed when she walked up to the door and opened it. "Well..." she said a little hesitantly, standing in the lobby and biting her lip. "Thank you again, Jack."

"you're very welcome," he said and stepped inside as well. She looked so pretty standing there in the dim light of the lobby.

Standing there in the lobby with his hand still in hers, Birdie wasn't really sure how to proceed. She wanted to kiss him, but he was most certainly still drunk, and she hadn't a clue how to actually kiss someone, anyway. "Well," she said again. "Good night, then."

Jack wanted to kiss her too, looking down at her that way. He cleared his throat awkwardly. "uh... Yeah goodnight."

She unhooked her fingers from his and stepped back, giving him a smile, then forced herself to turn and go up to the stairs.
