Birdie blushed, smiling at him, then got to her feet with a stretch. Everything ached -- perhaps sleeping on the floor was not such a good idea after all.

She sighed happily as he kissed her, then opened her eyes and looked up at him. "I won't go farther than the steps, I promise."

Birdie watched him go, chewing at her lip and struggling with the urge to run after him. What on earth was this? She'd never get anything accomplished if she spent all her time wanting to chase after Jack and kiss him all the time.
