Piper chuckled. "Maybe I am...or maybe im just interesting."

"So are you saying you didn't have fun?" she asked him, her eyes dancing.

"I did..." Jimmy said a bit hesitantly, he didn't want her to think he'd do this all the time.

"what? What's on your mind?" she asked, looking at him.

"nothin," he shook his head and then lit a cigarette.

Piper cleared her throat. "You wanna show me your place?"

"the lodging house?" Jimmy asked her. "it's kind of a dump," he said with a shrug. He'd become a little bit more comfortable around her but something still didn't sit right with him.

Piper cursed inside. At this point it was pretty much over. If he didn't wanna take her home (and she couldn't take him back) there was nothing else she could do.
She glanced at him. "you don't have to have around me anymore if you don't want to."

"It ain't that. I just feel like you ain't telling me something, there's something that just ain't right. I think you're playing me," Jimmy took a long drag of his cigarette. "And if you ain't, well then I feel like an asshole."

Piper looked at him, a bit surprised. She'd be killed if she screwed this up.
This life wasn't worth much living anyway.
"I'm not," she lied, looking at him. "But you are right, I lied about my gran. I'm actually hiding out from my abusive boyfriend. He's in Queens, I'm trying to figure out how the hell to disappear."

"Pulling a hustle in a bar in Brooklyn ain't the way sweetheart, but you're lying," He said, stepping up to her. "That's okay. You don't have to tell me, but I ain't taking you home with me if I don't trust you. Just how it is. Saturday I'll meet you right back here and we'll take our trip to Coney Island, how's that?"

Jesus Christ. Monday should know how perceptive this guy was.
Piper nearly laughed. It was kinda funny. "Fine. Saturday. But I'm telling you , it's fucking weird how perceptive you are. It's freaking me out. Either that or I'm losing my touch."

"I'm just perceptive," He said with a smirk. "Saturday, one o'clock." He pointed at her and then took another drag of his smoke. When he finished it, he flicked it off into the street.

"At least walk me back?" she asked him, glancing around the empty dark street. "You don't have to come up or anything." she told him, now a lot more amused by him.
