"She's a darling," Tara agreed--with a little more warmth and nostalgia than an old friend would generally warrant. "Goblin's her brother. He's the spawn of Satan. Well, not really. We just argue a lot."

"If you ask me, all men are the spawn of Satan," Fire said with a smirk. "Nothing but trouble, they are. Although, in fairness, I don't know her brother, so I don't know exactly how much of a spawn of Satan he is."

Tara laughed. "I know what you mean...but women can be pretty bad, too. It's hard to say who's worse. I kind of go back and forth." She reflected on those words for a moment. "On, uh...on that...issue."

Fire's eyebrows arched slightly at that. Did this girl really just say what she thought she did? Sensing the girl's slight embarrassment, she quickly played it off. "Oh, I know what you mean," she quickly chimed in. "Some girls seem to enjoy doing nothing but causing trouble for everyone else."

Tara nodded gratefully, seizing the cue. "Right! Like my sisters--they're holy terrors...always gossiping and backstabbing, but as far as my parents are concerned, they're a pair of perfect society girls." She rolled her eyes. "So...any troublemakers in your life?"

"Who isn't a troublemaker in my life?" Fire asked with a quick laugh. "Sometimes, it feels like everyone is. But, as far as your kind of troublemakers go, no... None like that."

"There are all kinds, I guess," Tara agreed. "The loud ones, the quiet ones, the the clever ones, the stupid ones...the ones who make trouble on purpose and the ones who mean well but muck everything up." Occasionally, she found herself falling into that last category.

"Every last one of them is still a troublemaker," she joked, a playful smirk on her face. "So, since you're friends with some of my new housemates, does that mean I'll be seeing you downtown more often?"

"I hope so," Tara said. "I like it downtown." She remembered the first time she'd entered that neighborhood, clutching her father's sword cane to ward off any attackers, and grinned. "Two redheads under one roof--we might set the place on fire!"

"We just might!" Fire agreed with a laugh. "They wouldn't know what to do." She paused for a moment, her forehead wrinkling as she studied the other girl. "I'm sorry... I don't think I've told you my name yet, have I?"

"Neither have I!" Tara exclaimed in surprise. "This is a breach of manners even I can't excuse." She hopped to her feet and bowed. "Tara Fields, at your service."

"Firecracker," Fire said with a laugh, playfully bowing in return. "Very nice to officially meet you, Miss Fields from uptown!"

"Likewise," said Tara with a big smile. "Oh, and if you need any help dealing with any if your troublemakers, you should talk to Jack Kelly. Apparently, he has a friend who's very good at scaring people." She was still looking forward to taking him up on that offer.

"Jack Kelly, eh?" Fire repeated. "Well, if I ever need to, I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks. For the time being, though, I guess I'm okay."

She nodded, still examining the butterfly in her jar. "I'm debating whether I should let the poor thing go. I've already got a couple swallowtails in my collection."
