"I don't know," Wraith said thoughtfully, glad that they were, at least, talking about it and not just skirting around the unusual nature of their feelings for each other. "I think it's possible for people to understand. There are, um...a few people who know about me," she admitted. "My brother and a couple of friends. And they didn't react the way I thought they would." She remembered how terrified she'd been when Tristan caught her and Kennedy in the bath, when Script guessed her secret. But they hadn't hurt her, hadn't told anyone. In fact, they looked out for her all the more.

"Really?" Fire asked, a surprised look on her face. The only other person who was even remotely close to knowing her secret was Gypsy, and she hadn't seen that girl since their initial encounter.
"Nobody knows about me," she added softly. "I can't even tell my best friend." Granted, it was because, up until a short while ago, she was in what she thought could be considered love with her best friend. She simply couldn't risk losing her, but sometimes it felt like she lost her anyway. "You're lucky that you have people who care about you like that."

Wraith gave her a reassuring smile. "I'm sure you have people like that in your life...you just might not know it yet. The problem is, there's so much at stake that we can't even risk telling the people we're closest to. The ones who know about me...they all found out on their own. You're the only person I've ever told because I wanted to."

"Am I really," Fire asked, carefully tilting her head to look up at her. She watched her for a moment, chewing lightly on the inside of her cheek. "You're the first person I've ever told, no matter what the circumstance. It's hard..."
She snuggled in closer to Wraith, allowing herself to get a little more comfortable. "Is this why you hide?"

She smiled sadly, a faraway look creeping into her eyes. "That and other reasons." It was funny, in a way, that she'd told Kennedy all about her dark and twisted past, but they had never once discussed their relationship or its consequences. With Fire, the latter came easily, but she couldn't imagine delving into her past with her. Kennedy was different. Nothing mattered to her but the present moment. Most people couldn't deal with everything I've been and done.

"Well, we've all got our reasons for doing what we do," Fire reasoned, her voice soft. She had to admit that part of her was curious as to what Wraith's 'other reasons' were, but she typically wasn't the type to keep asking personal questions. The way that she saw things, if Wraith wanted her to know, she would've told her.
Fire could barely hear the raindrops beating against the window anymore and she picked her head back up, a slight smirk on her face. "If only we had held out just a couple hours longer," she joked.

Wraith chuckled. "I think we would've melted. Anyway, it's not really safe to be out at this hour...or that's what my brother would say. But I take a lot of walks at night," she admitted. Nighttime and cemeteries...what would you expect from a ghost?

"You do?" She asked, a concerned look in her eyes. "What... what if something were to happen to you?" Sure, Wraith could probably handle herself, but that didn't make Fire worry any less. "I wouldn't last too long alone out there at night. The slightest noise would send me right back inside."

"I know what you mean," Wraith said. "I get really nervous too, but I almost feel safer at night. Plenty of darkness to hide in. I'm not saying I recommend it," she added quickly. "I'm just...I don't know, odd. I've always been odd," she admitted with a sigh. "Even beyond the obvious, I mean." She looked down at their intertwined hands with a smile.

"Well, you're also better at hiding than I am," Fire reminded her with a smirk. She gave the other girl's hand a small squeeze, loving how the other girl's skin felt against hers. "I couldn't hide in the darkest corner of the deepest box."

She laughed at the image, then tried to remember the last time she'd laughed this much. She wasn't sure she ever had. "I could teach you sometime if you want. It helps being tiny, I guess, but it's mostly just tricks anyone can learn. Not just hiding, but eavesdropping and following people..." She trailed off, realizing just how eager she'd started to sound. "Not that I'm, uh, recommending those things either."

"It's because you don't want me following you round to eavesdrop, isn't it?" She joked, unable to hold back a laugh. "I knew it! You've got a girl in every borough, don't you?"

Wraith giggled hard at that. "No! I just had the one in Brooklyn, and that's been over for a while," she assured Fire. "What about you? I mean, I know about the man..." And the unrequited love for Nevada. "But...was there ever anyone...?" She hoped she wasn't prying, that it wasn't a painful subject. It was just such a revelation to have someone to talk to. Somewhere to help her muse about the mysteries of women loving women, mysteries she'd never come close to solving despite being counted among that crowd.

"No, not really, no," she answered with a slow shake of her head. "Well, not exactly." She paused and took in a slow breath. "When I first got here, there was this one girl. I met her up here, actually. I only saw her once, but never again. I.... I really don't think she counts, though."
She watched Wraith nervously for any sign of a reaction. The last thing she wanted was to give this girl the wrong impression about herself, and this was just the thing that she thought might do just that. "She was it, though. Just once."

"A girl in the lodging house?" Wraith stared at her, wide-eyed. The idea that there had been another girl like them in this very house was astonishing to her. "And...you only saw her once? Are you sure she wasn't a ghost?" she asked with a faint smile, not sure what to think of this mysterious encounter.
Though if it was true, this attic had probably known more Sapphic love than any other room in the city.
