"We can have an early dinner," chuckled Ershey as she played with Jo in her arms.
"I, uh, think I'll pass," said Risk, hesitant now that the two girls were together.

Macbeth raised an eyebrow at him and shrugged. Not like she gave a damn whether he ate or not. Though she couldn't help wondering if he was feeling uncomfortable about all the sharing they'd done before they fell asleep.
She wasn't. Kind of odd, really. Maybe because she already had enough to worry about. "Let's get outta here, then," she said to Ershey. Jo grabbed for Risk's nose, couldn't reach, and pouted. Macbeth ruffled her hair. "You'll get another chance soon, kiddo."

"Bye, kid," smiled Risk, playfully ruffling Jo's hair as he left the two girls alone. Once Risk was gone, Ershey looked at Macbeth and smirked. "Well, you two were cozy."

Macbeth glared at her. "Don't even go there." Ershey knew perfectly well that she didn't date, or kiss, or dance, or do anything vaguely related to sex or romance. Boys didn't like girls who looked like Gothic rag dolls, acted like pit vipers, and talked like--well, like a foul-mouthed Five Points street kid with a generous sprinkling of British slang.
Beth knew her Shakespeare well. If she ever attempted romance, she could never even hope to be a tragic antiheroine like her namesake. No, she would be a minor character in one of the comedies, some low-born, bawdy maid whose love was played for laughs. And if she did take that risk--no pun intended--it certainly wouldn't be with a drunk or a snitch or her best friend's brother.
And that was final.

"Alright, alright, I'll drop it," laughed Ershey, rolling her eyes at her friend. She knew that look well enough that she wasn't even going to try. "So, where off to?"

"I dunno. Ain't there nothing in the kitchen?" The thought of Tibby's, where she first told Tristan about Jo and he pushed her around in an alley out back, made her queasy. "We could get food from a vendor, eat on the roof or something."

"I'm sure we can find something in the kitchen," said Ershey as she made her way downstairs. "Besides, you should get used to cooking since you'll be doing it for a while now!" She turned around and grinned, wondering whether Macbeth caught the hint.

Macbeth sighed, assuming she meant cooking for Jo. They were all the way downstairs before her sleepy brain caught on. "Wait...really?" She yelped and grabbed Ershey's hands excitedly, beaming for the first time in a very long while. "Really!?"

"Macbeth," smirked Ershey, an excited Jo in her hands. "Would I ever lie to you?"

Macbeth had to laugh. "No, Ersh, I don't b'lieve you would." She grabbed Jo's hands and grinned at her. "You hear that, jan? Aunt Beth's gonna be a cook!" Then she frowned and looked at Ershey anxiously. "What am I gonna do with her, though?"

"Between you, me and Alec, someone's bound to have the time to watch her. Hell, I'll get Mush to do it too," she laughed, sincerely glad for her friend.

"I gotta meet this guy of yours first," Macbeth said suspiciously. A cook, huh? She knew how to cook well enough; it wasn't like there had been anyone else to do it after her mother left. "...I won't have to talk to people, right?"
((Thank gods it's cooking, because she'd be the worst waitress ever. ;D Also, Beth meeting Mush is a thread that has to happen. She'll totally take on Risk's rightful role as the ferociously overprotective big brother.))

"Just to tell them that the food's ready. If anything, you'd be talking to me since I'd be bringing the food out," said Ershey, shrugging. "Oh, that's right... you haven't met Mush yet, huh?" ((Omg it'd be a sight to see those two get together since Mush is almost like Ershey! >< And we need a thread were MacErshey are working together! ))

((YES. So many on-the-job hijinks in store for those two. Poor Ershey will end up talking her out of so many fights with coworkers, haha.))
"Been too damn busy with your charming brother, ain't I?" Macbeth gave her a cagey look. "By the way, Ersh...he's got a lot to talk to you about. You might wanna have a sit-down with him sometime soon." And maybe I should be there to keep you from beating him senseless...

"About how he found me?" said Ershey, taking out a loaf of bread from the cupboard and trying to see if there was anything else she could find.
