Macbeth looked at Ershey, still wide-eyed. "He's gonna be an uncle! Like...for real this time. Maybe," she added, reminding herself that they didn't know. "Uh, we...we should wait till you know for sure. Till you, uh, miss a period or start throwing up or..." Yeah, she wasn't helping. At all.

"...I have to throw up?" she repeated, unable to keep up with Macbeth. "Then again, those eggs made me feel nauseous..."
"What's going on?!" yelled Risk impatiently.
"Nothing!" shouted Ershey.

"Not always," Beth said, "but most people do, I think. Ada didn't start throwing up till she was a few months along, though. So, uh...I guess we just wait and see...are you gonna tell Mush?"

Ershey panicked inwardly. "No!" she replied almost immediately. "I mean... not until I'm sure..."

Macbeth nodded slowly. "Well, I'll, uh...try to bear the burden of the knowledge all by myself, then." It was going to be so damn hard not to tell Risk. She was itching to get up and do so right now.

Ershey frowned. "Can we go to the doctor or something...? Or will that cost too much? Crap, I have to apologize to Mush about earlier..."

"It'd cost a fortune, and I don't trust 'em anyway...but we could try a midwife. They know the symptoms better'n most men. And I wouldn't worry about Mush," she added with a smirk. "He adores you, Ersh, he ain't gonna hold a grudge."

"I know, I just feel bad... I never shouted at him like that before," sighed Ershey. "Do you know any midwives around here, Beth?"

"Yeah, actually," Macbeth said thoughtfully. "The one who came to Rae when Sean was born. She's kinda old now, but that just means more experience. Oh, and she kinda hates me, but who doesn't, y'know?" Actually, Macbeth had a lot of grudging respect for her. Mrs. Green was a tough old bird.

"What else is new?" teased Ershey, finally feeling her nerves calm down. The idea of having a baby, however, was a different story. They needed money and a bigger place and a lot of other things...
"Where is she? Do you think we can visit her?"

"Don't see why not. She's in Brooklyn, but we're right by the bridge...won't be that far." Inside, she was still panicking at the idea of her best friend going through the ordeal that had killed her sister so many years ago, but she knew it was her job to keep up a brave front, so she was doing her best.

"I'm not interrupting anything, right? I mean, you can go now with me?" asked Ershey carefully only now realizing that she'd more or less barged into Macbeth's day.
((Gnight! <3))

"Long as we take Jo with us, it's no problem," Macbeth assured her. "'Less Mush wants to watch her. My next play don't start rehearsals till tomorrow." She still couldn't quite believe she'd managed to break into acting, even in amateur productions in low-rent theaters. But she wasn't about to spend her days tidying up and minding Jo and being a bloody housewife, especially when she wasn't even married. Besides, her income helped her and Alec and Jo considerably.

"Risk can't watch her?" asked Ershey, worried that Jo would make too much of a fuss and cause her to panic even more.

"He's going to work...or I thought he was...where did he even go?" She resisted the urge to shout his name again.
