Macbeth was making eggs. Jo was taking a broken clock apart on the kitchen floor. Risk was in their room getting ready for work. It was all very cozy and domestic, and Beth was almost relieved when she heard angry shouts coming from an apartment down the hall.
"Be good, jan," she told her niece, poking her head out into the hall, and then her eyes widened. She knew which apartment those shouts were coming from, and she knew that voice, though she'd definitely never heard it sound like this before. Hurrying down the hall, she knocked on the familiar door. "Uh...Ershey?"

"I don't care what you fucking broke and it's not my fault!" shouted Ershey before opening the door.
"What?" she snapped, not realizing that it was Macbeth. "Uh, sorry, I meant... what?" Her face softened and she glanced behind her, leaving Mush as she stepped outside and closed the door.

Macbeth just stared at her with her mouth open and actually backed up a step or two. "Uh...is...everything all right, Ersh?"

Ershey let out a sigh and leaned against the door.
"I-I don't know... everything's just goin' wrong today and all I wanted to do was cook and now I have a headache and Mush is upset and so am I..." she muttered all in one breath. What was wrong with her today?

Beth blinked. "Me and Alec have those days about once a week, but I thought everything with you and Mush was all rainbows and kittens." She fiddled with the spatula in her hands, still a little stunned by Ershey having a temper. "Wanna borrow some aspirin or something?"

"It's not always rainbows and kittens... well, at least not now," she muttered, rolling her eyes. "And yes, please."

"C'mon," Macbeth said, taking her arm and marching her down the hall. One thing you had to say for her, she was good in a crisis. She even managed to keep her cool when she came in to find the eggs burning, Jo's springs and gears strewn across the entire kitchen, and Risk nowhere in sight. "Just, uh...hang on a sec." She crossed the kitchen in a couple strategic leaps, saved the eggs just in time, yelled Alec's name at the top of her lungs, and found the aspirin in a cabinet. "Help yourself, Ersh."

Ershey followed Macbeth towards her apartment. She stopped at the door when she smelled the eggs cooking on the stove.
"U-uh, no, Beth," she muttered, shaking her head as she put her hand up to her nose. "Are you sure those eggs are still good?"
"Whaaaat?" shouted Risk from the bedroom.

"It's just the edges," she muttered, pulling out a knife, "and I meant the aspirin." She handed Ershey the bottle with a sympathetic look. "You might wanna take two or three, love." To Risk, she shouted, "There are clock parts everywhere!" as if he would know exactly what to do about that.
"Can I have eggs, Aunt Beth?" Jo said sweetly, standing up and smiling as if the chaos had nothing to do with her.
Beth just growled and sliced the burnt edges off the eggs, carrying them gingerly to the table.

"What?!" shouted Risk once again, obviously not catching on to what Macbeth meant.
"Yeah, thanks," she muttered, taking the bottle and popping two pills in her mouth. "Hey Beth, you think you and Risk can just... y'know, talk? You don't have to shout all the time, y'know." She sent Beth a glare and wished she didn't have a headache.

"But he's...all the way in there..." Macbeth said kind of pitifully. Normally, she would have been glaring and snapping snarky remarks right back, but this was Ershey, which threw her off completely. She set the eggs down and let Jo descend upon them. "You sure there's nothing else wrong 'sides the headache?" she asked in a small voice.

Ershey shrugged, sitting down on the couch (and as far away from the kitchen as possible). "I don't know," she sighed. "I've just been in a mood... I'm being mean, aren't I?"
"Beth, what?!" shouted Risk once more.
Ershey winced, placing her hand to her head. "Alec, shut up!!"
"Adri?!" he yelled back.

Macbeth sighed, got up, and went into the bedroom. "You're sister's in a mood," she informed Risk in a low voice, "and Jo left clock parts all over the kitchen. Also, there are eggs," she added as an afterthought.

"She's in a mood? I'll be there in a sec," muttered Risk as he looked up from the files around him. Sometimes taking work home was a convenience... right now, he wasn't too sure.
"Beth? Where'd you go?" frowned Ershey as she walked down the hallway.
"Adri, what's wrong?" said Risk, standing up and walking towards her.
"I have a headache."

"And her and Mush were yelling," Macbeth said in a stage-whisper, quickly heading back toward the kitchen to tidy it up before Ershey killed her. Jo had a mouthful of eggs and a crayon in her hand, with which she was drawing on the table. Beth didn't even comment.
